JAMBIZ SUMMER PRODUCTION IS “ASSISTANT THIEF”
… OPENS THURS JULY 27 @ 8PM

Patrick Brown’s laugh-a-line comedy “Assistant Thief” has its World Premier this Thursday night at Centerstage Theatre in New Kingston at 8pm.
The star-studded cast, led by the inimitable Caribbean King of Comedy Oliver Samuels, has been in rehearsals for the past 6 weeks. Director Trevor Nairne believes that they have put in the requisite preparation to deliver Patrick Brown’s unmistakable brand of comedy, when they hit the stage come opening night. The scenario finds a thief breaking into a house, only to find that another thief had already broken in a mere few minutes
earlier. Pandemonium breaks loose as each insists on first right of refusal for the “spoils” of their labour.

Samuels plays one of the thieves. The other is played by Glen “Titus” Campbell. Whenever these two comedic dynamos hit the stage, especially the same stage at the same time, it is usually comedic pandemonium. It is no different in “Assistant Thief”, as they go head to head with catchy one-liners and rib-tickling scenarios.Jambiz has once again come up with a Summer Production, which will have our regular patrons as well as the many visitors in Jamaica for the Emancipation/Independence holidays, rolling in the isles.

After its opening on Thursday July 27 at 8pm, “Assistant Thief” is scheduled to have a limited run at Centerstage before doing the usual tour of rural Jamaica and then jetting off for a limited overseas tour – beginning in Canada and ending in New York, after stops in Florida and the Eastern Caribbean. The cast also includes young acting sensation Camille Davis, best renowned for her portrayal of the ghetto fabulous “Dimples”
in the immensely popular 2005 production VIBES. Also in the cast is outstanding Centerstage Workshop graduate Christopher Hutchinson, playing an overly nosy police officer, who becomes hilariously entangled with the two cronies. Hutchinson shows here that he has the comedic talent to stand tall even in the company of Jamaica’s foremost comedic actors in Oliver Samuels and Glen Campbell.

All four actors gel together wonderfully under the expert guidance of veteran director Nairne, and have as a team crafted a truly audience-friendly, laugh-a-line theatrical gem, which will provide more than adequate exercise for the “funny-bone”. Audience members who have become accustomed to visit Centerstage for a good laugh are in for another treat, as “Assistant Thief” delivers many a show stopping moments.
