Previews “Rising Star” Chris Martin plays leading role The production features a mix of seasoned actors and some talented singers, some from the gospel music genre. Leading the singers is the 2005 “Rising Star” Christopher Martin, revealing another side of his immense talent, portraying dramatic moments in a believable way and delivering the musical moments with the skill of an experienced campaigner. Though not a complete stranger to the world of acting, having appeared on stage in the Schools’ Drama festival while a student at St. Jago High School, Chris acknowledges that theatre at this level is somewhat removed from the school experience. “I have been a regular patron at the Jambiz plays for some time, and always quietly wished for an opportunity one day to grace the stage in one of their productions. When I got the call to be a part of the cast of Amen Corner, I was so delighted” said Martin. “Though my schedule of performances across the island as the reigning “Rising Star” is quite hectic, I was determined to make whatever sacrifice was necessary to allow me the luxury of marrying both activities. The rehearsals and all that are quite demanding, but I have absolutely no regrets at having accepted the offer. Working with a director like Trevor Nairne, and the talented group of actors in the cast has taught me so much, it would take many years of study at a Drama school to match it” quipped Martin. “I want to do more of this”. “I am also fortunate to be working with the maestro Jon Williams. The music created by Jon is simply amazing. The audience is definitely going to find that the music will be one of the strong points of the show. Trust me … the music bad”, exclaimed a beaming Martin. AMEN CORNER aims at providing entertainment from a Christian perspective. The production has its fair share of hilarious moments, but it also explores some very serious themes, most of which are very current in our society at this time. Here a woman is faced with the daunting prospect of choosing between dedication to GOD and her duty to family. Directing responsibilities have been shared by Trevor Nairne, widely regarded as the leading theatre director in the Caribbean, and Patrick Brown, better known for penning the immensely popular annual Jambiz Christmas productions. Musical Director is the award winning composure Jon Williams, with Barbara McDaniel painting an interesting picture on stage with choreography. Amen Corner will have a limited run, playing Tuesdays to Fridays at 8pm and on Saturdays and Sundays at 5pm and 8pm. - end - |
