As our country sinks deeper and deeper into despair with rampant violent activities, and the more vulnerable in our society – our women and our children, becoming daily victims, the need for redeeming activities take on added significance. AMEN CORNER – the Gospel Musical, seeks to provide wholesome entertainment suited for the entire family. The region’s leading theatre director Trevor Nairne has been charged with the responsibility of fine tuning an interesting mix of seasoned and professional actors and personalities pulled from the theatre, gospel music, and pop music, including the sensational crowd pleaser Chris “Rising Star” Martin. Add the musical genius Jon Williams and the award winning Jambiz Production team to the mix and we are bound to end up with a theatrical gem come opening night – Thursday May 18, 2006 Following the wide appeal of it’s 2004/5 Christmas Production RAS NOAH AND THE HAWK, and the many encouraging words from the many patrons who supported it, most of whom were impressed with the religious theme of the production, Jambiz International has been on a drive to deliver productions which speak to that desire of our people. Though its productions are primarily comedies, writer Patrick Brown reminds all that behind the laugher, there is always a very telling message. He believes that the comedy is often times the proverbial sugar which is used to coat the medicine administered to the populace. “Our people do not like to be preached to” he insists. “The use of a comedic vehicle to make the message more “enticing” and appealing is a strategy which has worked for generations”. Jambiz just observes how people operate and basically provide them with a quality product which meets (and even sometimes surpasses) their expectations. AMEN CORNER is one such production. It explores some very serious themes, most of which are very current in our society at this time. Here a woman is faced with the daunting prospect of choosing between dedication to GOD and her duty to family. The production which opens at the Centerstage Theatre in New Kingston on Thursday May 18 at 8pm, will have a very short run, playing Tuesdays to Fridays and Saturdays and Sundays at 5pm and 8pm. - end - |
