“LOVE GAMES” – a synopsis LOVE GAMES is the 6th Comedy Review created by prolific Jamaican playwright Patrick Brown, following YARD ’89, YARD ’90, IRIE, YARD 2000, and OLIVER LARGE ABROAD. The Revues created by Brown are usually thematic, and LOVE GAMES is no different. As the name suggests, the production takes a humourous look at the games lovers play. Brown shows us that not all players play by the rules … especially in this GAME called LOVE. Some end up being ridiculed by the situation, or as the saying goes: “get caught with their pants down”. Directed by award winning doyen of theatre Trevor Nairne, in collaboration with Patrick Brown, LOVE GAMES promises to be visually stimulating, energizing, and an above all an evening of good old Jamaican belly-bottom laughter. Held together by the common theme of LOVE, the six playlets which make up LOVE GAMES are SELLING GAMES, HEAD GAMES, CON GAMES, MIXED-UP GAMES, DEADLY GAMES, and THE FINAL GAME. In SELLING GAMES a corporate executive ends up in the company of a “lady of the night” who confronts him with more that he bargained for … they had had an “encounter” before and there had been a “wardrobe malfunction’ of sorts. She could be carrying his child. In the following piece the dreadlocked Rastafarian Bingi is all aglow after making love to his side-squeeze, when he realizes that a familiar looking car is parked downstairs the apartment. The car happens to belong to his wife and she happens to be sitting behind the wheel, patiently waiting for him to alight. Much HEAD GAMES happen as Bingi tries to get himself out of a tight spot. It’s a lot of CON GAMES as the penny-pinching miser Titus walks in on his young wife Moya with the bearer from her office (Duffus). It’s pure fun and excitement as Moya tries to manipulate the men to her advantage. The second half of LOVE GAMES opens with MIXED-UP GAMES, as Sonia confesses to Vince that she has admitted to her husband that she and Vince has been having an affair. Vince’s main problem is that Sonia’s husband happens to be his boss. The penultimate piece is DEALDY GAMES, in which newly-weds Colin and Hilda Charm discover many skeletons in the closet. Some they can live with … some they can’t. Colin’s discovery of Hilda’s infidelity … with the best man from his wedding party, and her discovery of John’s infidelity with someone too close for comfort, may be too much for the couple to overcome.
