Titus leads “LOVE GAMES”
- Comedy Revue opens July 25

One of Jamaica’s best known comedic actors Glen “Titus” Campbell leads an exciting and talented cast of actors in Patrick Brown’s Comedy revue LOVE GAMES, which will have its World Premier at the Centerstage Theatre in New Kingston on Wednesday July 25 at 8pm.

Campbell, best known from the 1980’s TV series “Titus In Town” in which he played the leading role, comes to LOVE GAMES fresh from the hit stage comedy CUTIE & THE FREAK. Many people are still talking about the acting range displayed by Campbell in CUTIE & THE FREAK, playing no less than four roles and playing all four with distinction. His portrayal of two of Cutie’s suitors - the rasta chanting “Killer” and the eccentric church-going “Ezekeil” – provided much of the fun and laughter in that production.

LOVE GAMES provides Campbell with the perfect opportunity to again put his tremendous acting range on display, as it is made up of six “playlets” – Campbell appearing in four. In each of the four pieces he brings the characters to life, skillfully making all four distinctly different and memorable characters.

Slipping away to have a chat during one of his six hour rehearsals at Centerstage, Campbell said that though challenging, his task was made so much easier by working with a writer the caliber of Patrick Brown. He went on to say that “Patrick has a way of coming up with these unusual yet funny characters. Over the years I have come to trust the fact that Brown’s comedy easily finds resonance with the Jamaican audience, because he has done it on so many occasions. I use his frame of reference, bring my own distinctive style to each role, and the audience usually finds it hilarious … extremely hilarious. No matter how good an actor you are, you need a good writer to put the right words in your mouth. Brown has been doing that to great effect for the last 10 years. Love Games is definitely one of his best efforts. People are going to find the pieces extremely hilarious”.

Of course the Patrick Brown he speaks so highly of is well known to Jamaican audiences, having been responsible for writing most of the episodes of Jamaica’s best known TV series – Oliver At Large (starring the legendary Oliver Samuels). Brown also pens the annual Jambiz Christmas productions (Cutie & the Freak, Class of ’73, Ras Noah & the Hawk, and many others).

LOVE GAMES is directed by the multiple award winning director Trevor Nairne, with support coming from Patrick Brown. The other cast members are Camille Davis and Courtney Wilson, also fresh from triumphant performances in CUTIE & THE FREAK, Maria Walters and Noelle Kerr.

Davis and Wilson are widely regarded as two of the country’s fastest rising young acting talent.  Davis created quite a stir on the local scene in 2005 in the immensely popular stage play VIBES, as the ghetto-fabulous Dimples. Wilson also appeared in VIBES – as the inquisitive gardener Watchie. The comedic chemistry between these two young actors in VIBES was a real tour-de-force.

Maria Walters alternates in the production with young Noelle Kerr. Walters has been around for some time now, and is probably best remembered for her skillful portrayal of the aggrieved wife in David heron’s blockbuster hit AGAINST HIS WILL. Kerr is a relative newcomer to the local stage. She honed her craft in the annual JMTC productions and recently distinguished herself in the award winning play AFTER MRS. ROCHESTER, which walked away with the lion’s share of the 2007 Actor Boy Awards.

LOVE GAMES promises to be visually stimulating, energizing, and an absolute blast. After its opening on Wednesday July 25, the production will then play Wednesdays to Fridays at 8pm and on Saturdays and Sundays at 5pm and 8pm. As is customary with all Jambiz productions, the play will tour major rural townships across Jamaica, before embarking on an overseas tour of select cities in North America.
