July 16, 2007 Cutie and the Freak for “LOVE GAMES” Camille Davis (Cutie) and Courtney Wilson (Frank the Freak) are undoubtedly two of the busiest actors on the Jamaican stage these days, and the audiences are loving every moment of it. The two young, talented Jamaican actors, who have only just played the two title roles in the hit musical comedy CUTIE & THE FREAK, move straight into another Patrick Brown penned comedy – LOVE GAMES. The production will have its World Premier at the Centerstage Theatre in New Kingston on Wednesday July 25 at 8pm. Davis and Wilson were able to “shine” in CUTIE & THE FREAK, despite playing alongside two of Jamaica’s best and most respected actors in Oliver Samuels O.D. and Glen “Titus” Campbell. “It is still a learning experience for me” said Davis, when we caught up with her at rehearsals for LOVE GAMES. “I am delighted to see the reaction from patrons who have flocked to see the productions I have done – both locally and overseas. But I am mindful that my journey has only just begun, and that there is much to learn along the way. I am so fortunate to be working with people the caliber of actors like Glen and Uncle Oliver, writer Patrick Brown and director Trevor Nairne. It’s a young actor’s dream really. I am still pinching myself to see if I am in a dream. If I am, I certainly don’t want to wake up anytime soon”. Wilson too was full of praise for the “team”. “Camille is a fabulous young actress. We seem to be able to create this wonderful chemistry on stage between us. It happened in VIBES and then CUTIE AND THE FREAK. Though the plays we do are hilarious and the audience cracks up a lot when we hit the stage, the real beauty is that they also see some “substance” in the story. There is always a moral in Patrick Brown’s stories. They get a good laugh all the way through, but leave the theatre with a positive message. I like that. LOVE GAMES is no different. Each playlet is chock-filled with laughter, but each has a message wrapped up inside. It’s going to be a real laugh riot.” LOVE GAMES is directed by the multiple award winning director Trevor Nairne, with support coming from Patrick Brown. The other cast members are Glen “Titus” Campbell, also fresh from a triumphant performance in CUTIE & THE FREAK, Maria Walters and Noelle Kerr.
Walters actually alternates in the production with young Noelle Kerr. Maria has been around for some time now, and is probably best remembered for her skillful portrayal of the aggrieved wife in David heron’s blockbuster hit AGAINST HIS WILL. Kerr is a relative newcomer to the local stage. She honed her craft in the annual JMTC productions and recently distinguished herself in the award winning play AFTER MRS. ROCHESTER, which walked away with the lion’s share of the 2007 Actor Boy Awards. After its opening on Wednesday July 25, LOVE GAMES will then play Wednesdays to Fridays at 8pm and on Saturdays and Sundays at 5pm and 8pm. As is customary with all Jambiz productions, the play will tour major rural townships across Jamaica, before embarking on an overseas tour of select cities in North America.
